Writer's Journal #6

The CRQ that I am going to address is “due to the new sustainability movement, how can we implement that recycling system within our accounting firm right now?” I am trying to explore the problem of ways and not recycling within the work environment of my company called TSS Accounting. The court issue or concern that is giving rise to my CRQ question is the issue of just papers being thrown out and shred it and automatically put in the trash versus recycled or other uses. It is a more modernized issue that we need to address before it ruins our company‘s reputation.

My project is exigent because the world is moving into a more sustainable direction and we need to get on board before it’s too late. Working on this problem right now will result in positive results because everyone wants to go to a company that is making our world a better place and he’s not going to destroy the environment. Companies that are moving to the more sustainable direction especially with the new generation it is extremely important to be on the train of the sustainability route. People are looking for companies that are going greener and trying to make more progressive decisions. If people see that our company is going greener and making the right economical decisions then we will get more clients and people will be overall more satisfied with our company.

My project will mostly emphasize the people that work in my company, which is four of us myself included. The people that will be directly impacted will be the four of us but also many of our clients because we will most likely use less paper and therefore do more electronic work and also more electronic paperwork as well. Therefore the stakeholders will be most likely myself and my coworkers as well as some of our clients.

I believe it will require many research techniques involving research on different recycling ideas and ways to improve the office environment in more greener ways. I will probably have to do some research on movements that bigger companies are making to have a greener environment within their company. And I will also have to see if there’s any cost efficient plans as well because our business is a small business and therefore we cannot afford to do any big changes like we cannot get a recycle bin installed in our building because that would cost a few hundred dollars I’m sure in our company cannot afford that. I believe most of the research I will be doing can be found online but I may interview some sustainability people. Perhaps some people are more involved in the world in regards to sustainability.

I think I’m going in the right direction with this project but I might have to narrow down some more information on where I can find reliable sources. I was having some issues addressing some sources in where I could find some good ones in so I’ll have to dig deeper in regards to that. I think I’m a little nervous doing research related to my job but I think in the end it might actually be very beneficial. Perhaps if my research is done correctly I would actually be able to do this and implement it in my work culture. Although I think my coworkers will struggle a little bit because they’re not used to something like this.
