Writer's Journal #18

My persuasive research project is trying to persuade my other employees to implement a recycling system within TSS Accounting. My whole purpose is to get people to recycle at our company and not just have a bunch of ways to put in the landfills. Every year we have so much waste in landfills and companies including small companies like ours are not caring enough about the environment and about making sure everyone recycles. My purpose is to get my management at TSS Accounting to not only employment but also make sure that it is a successful recycling system put in place that everyone abides by. So my main goal as I’m writing my research is to persuade my bosses to put in place this system.

I believe most of my research supports my stand because it hasn’t really changed; it's just the aim of what I’m trying to say. Instead of just simply doing research I am persuading someone with all the research that I have. In this regard I might actually want to include more real hard-core statistics versus just blatant statements. In this regard I might include how many companies are actually putting in place a strong recycling system and how they went about it and actually how successful it has been. In this regard I can include how much waste hasn’t been put into the dumps versus what we are putting into the landfills. I think my research also does a very good job and reassures people that it’s going to be an easy and not complicated process overall to put in place because I know from a boss perspective it might seem very overwhelming and a little scary to try something new like this. With all the research that I’m doing my boss will be comfortable and totally fine with the whole process and confident that it’ll be successful overall. If a project is too complicated and the listeners feel like it’s not possible or can’t be done then I have a less likely chance of actually making it be put in place versus if I did all the research and I made it as easy as possible for the listeners or readers to understand every detail then most likely my project will be put in place.

I think something my research project doesn’t really have is pathos very much which is the emotional side of things. So I may want to do further research to find some emotional stories or perhaps animals being impacted by pollution or children or something tragic that would influence whoever I was presenting my persuasive research to. I’m sure I could find some great tools online for it.
