Writer's Journal #12

I actually did a career interview today with a man named Alexander Simpson who is an aerospace engineer at Siemens. I had previously written down a set of questions for him and I emailed it to him so then he knew what we were going to talk about. We went over all the questions but while he was talking I did end up coming up with a few more. I asked him about 20 questions and the whole process took a little less than an hour long. We did it via zoom so it’s a little different than a standard interview but due to the circumstances in regards to Covid this is the way we had to handle it. The purpose of this interview was to learn more about the career field he is in and if I am interested in someday having this career too. The audience was my professor who is going to be reading the essay I write based off of the interview I had done but mainly the audience was me because I am the one ultimately being influenced by the whole interview being done.

The interview was very successful I would say because now I’m very interested in the career that he spoke to me about which was aerospace engineering. I was able to learn quite a bit with just our interview about his career and different aspects of it. I asked very detailed and open-ended questions to leave room to have more input than originally planned. I learned about his lifestyle with the career and how he became in the position he is now. The interview was mostly successful because of what I learned overall including all the details. The interview was successful also because I actually want to be an aerospace engineer now!

I would interview Travis and Julie Bart separately because this way I have more data to work with and be able to compare both. Both of these people know everything there is to know about the company TSS Accounting because they founded the company as well as run the company. If there was a way they may have tried to implement the system in the past and saw errors or ways the system did not work, they would know all there is to know about it. They may even provide some helpful information. Another person I may want to interview is the person that runs the recycling program nearby. They would be able to help me learn more about what products can be recycled and how we should handle everything. They would also be able to provide some helpful advice in regards to storage and more efficient ways to handle the process all together. It would be valuable to the project because I need to know what the best way to handle and implement the system would be. I need to learn about the system and also how it has been tried before to know what has and hasn’t worked in the past.
