I first learned to write in Russia when I was 5 years old. I learned how to write all the letters and the alphabet. Then I moved to America at 7 years old and had to learn a whole new language. The transformation was incredibly different because Russian and English have different alphabets and ways of communication. We used to write in the air with our fingers until we became comfortable with the movements. Then we eventually transitioned to pencil and paper. Gradually the words got bigger and sentences were formed. Later, I was home schooled and that was where I began learning the grammar aspects of writing. Grammar was even more difficult to learn because it adds rules to writing. Now that I have spent more than 15 years of my life writing, I enjoy blogging in my free time.

In my experience with writing, I believe that the best things you can write comes from your heart. When you sit at your keyboard and just pour out your feelings and heart, your writing can influence many people. That is what writing really is supposed to be. There is also educational and informational writing that I do too but that is to educate people or to show that what I have learned in my classes, I have retained. The act of writing is always to express concepts whether it is to educate, inform, persuade, or relieve. When I am blogging, it is almost always to express myself and my ways of life that could potentially benefit others. I’ve always been an intellectual person, so blogging also help relieve my brain of going over the same ideas over and over again. Once it is on the page, then I do not have to worry about remembering it or making sure I get every detail down. I can always write more when those thoughts come about. I have noticed though that as the years go by and my education grows, my writing becomes more complex. It becomes easier to use a variety of words but harder to put ides into words. Writing is a way of communication and you must understand your audience before you write. I would not write the same way to a group of scholars that I would write to a group of children. Therefore, writing is always changing and developing. I am a huge fan of classic novels. I do notice that they seem to have more difficult vocabulary. It makes me wonder that perhaps our vocabulary has simplified over the years. It could also just be my exposure to the people I am around and how they write. The biggest concept that I can use to summarize my previous statements is that writing is complex and is not limited to one way.

I am hoping this class will help me write to different audiences and perfect the areas I am weak in. I tend to get lost in my writing and get off track a little bit and perhaps this class will help me figure out how to channel that. I use writing in my professional career as well every day. I work as the blog content writer at my job as an office assistant and that requires me to do research and be able to write what my audience wants to learn more about. I mostly write about finances and accounting topics which require a lot of research because I know very little about those subjects. I am hoping this class will be able to learn how to write better for my career as well!
