I believe that I have learned a lot in this course. I was really worried at first that it would be super tough and hard to manage. Each module has been a step by step process and I have actually not been too overwhelmed. The part that I disliked most was the writing journals but now looking back, I don’t think I would have been as successful in this course without them. This course has taught me a lot of self thinking and responsibility. There is no teacher making sure I do the course work which has been a new experience for me. It really meant that I had to work a lot harder to achieve the rubric measurements and in answering every question that was asked. When I write, I tend to do what I can to please the professor or teacher rather than focus on the actual assignment and task. So in regards to that, this course has challenged me to really focus on my task and what I was being asked to do. It was challenging sometimes to write but it has helped me to be better at invention.
My writing approach in this course has become a lot richer due to all the steps and lessons we have taken in this class. Originally when I would start a paper, I was always trying my best to get it done and over with. So I would just free write until I had a lengthy essay and then I would call it complete. In this class, I really had to change my approach to writing. I had to not only write, but also work on the minor steps. I had to edit the paper many times. I actually went as far as to even read my papers to my boyfriend. As I mentioned in the last paragraph, I have also changed my approach in regards to rubrics. I used to view rubrics as an invention tool to get me started on writing but now I follow it like a code. Why write paragraphs on something the professor never asked for? It’s a waste of time and you end up with an essay but not the essay you can turn in.
I think that after this class is over, I will for sure use everything I learned in my COM 100 (Intro to Human Communication) class. I have to write a 4 page paper and all of these skills will be helpful. Not only will I use these for my future classes, but I will also use it in my professional and personal writing projects. In this class, we learned how to analyze different aspects of writing like context, purpose, space, place, Kairos, and so much more. Well when I am writing, I will not be analyzing them, but using them! I work in marketing basically at work and all of these strategies we learned will help me incredibly in being able to market content better whether it is photos or blogs.
I believe that when I am writing my projects now and in the future, I will mentally be focusing on everything I have learned but I will only use certain strategies that benefit me most in that moment. I also think that I will use my new perspective on every piece of writing I do! I think they are too valuable not to be used.
